Best DGT Theory Test Practice Sites for English Speakers in Spain (2026)
The DGT theory exam is available in English, which helps - but finding a preparation platform built around English speakers is harder. This list covers the four main options available in 2026, ranked by how well they serve expats who are learning, not just testing. Pricing, bilingual support, question depth and expat-specific content are all weighed.
Last updated June 2026. DGTTestPro is our own platform - see disclosure at the bottom.
How we ranked these platforms
- Language support
- Does it show both Spanish and English at once, or only an English-only mode?
- Pricing transparency
- Is the cost visible before you register?
- Question depth
- How many questions are available, and how recently were they updated?
- Expat content
- Does it help beyond the exam - exchange guides, residency context, driving rules?
- Support
- How quickly can you get help when you are stuck?
DGTTestPro
Best overall for English-speaking expats
DGTTestPro is purpose-built for English-speaking expats preparing the DGT theory exam in Spain. The bilingual format shows Spanish and English simultaneously on every question - not as a translation mode you switch into. That distinction matters: the real DGT exam is in Spanish, so you want to recognise the phrasing, not just the English translation.

-
1
Register on your chosen platform and work through the free tier first to judge the interface. If the layout confuses you before you have paid, it will not improve after.
-
2
Work through topic-by-topic tests before attempting full simulations. The DGT exam covers 9 theory chapters - weak chapters tank your overall score disproportionately.
-
3
Run full simulations - 30 questions, 30 minutes, pass mark 27 - at least 5 times before booking. If you are consistently hitting 28-30, you are ready. If not, identify the weak chapter and drill it.
-
4
Book your exam slot on the DGT website (sede.dgt.gob.es) and select English as your language. Bring your TIE and NIE on the day - not just your passport.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. The DGT offers the theory exam in English, along with French, German, Romanian, Arabic, Chinese and several other languages. You select your language when booking your appointment on the DGT website.
The exam questions in English are direct translations of the Spanish originals. Some phrasing can be ambiguous in translation. Using a bilingual platform - where you see both languages side by side - reduces the risk of being tripped up by a translation difference on the day.
30 questions, with 30 minutes to complete them. The pass mark is 27 correct answers (3 allowed errors). Questions are drawn from a bank covering 9 theory chapters.
Most people are ready within 2 to 6 weeks of consistent daily practice. Platform claims of "15 days" are achievable but assume prior driving experience and several hours of study per day.
It depends on your country. EU/EEA licence holders exchange without any test. UK, Moroccan and several other bilateral agreement holders also exchange without a test. US, Canadian and Australian licence holders must pass both the theory and practical exams. Check the country-specific exchange guides on this site for the exact rules.
