About the Category C (Truck) exam
The Permiso C covers heavy goods vehicles in Spain. C1 covers vehicles between 3,500 kg and 7,500 kg; the full C licence covers all HGVs above 3,500 kg. Both require passing the dedicated DGT theory test.
The exam is 30 questions in 30 minutes, pass mark 27. The syllabus includes goods transport regulations, EU driving-time and rest rules (EC 561/2006), tachograph use, maximum loads, and advanced road safety.
Systematic study by topic - particularly the EU regulations that differ from the standard car syllabus - is the most efficient way to approach this exam. Practice with category-specific question sets to cover every area of the syllabus.
How to prepare
-
1
Learn the question bank
The DGT draws exam questions from a published bank. Practicing every question category is more effective than cramming theory alone.
-
2
Drill your weak topics
After each practice session, review the questions you got wrong. Targeted repetition on weak areas is the fastest way to close gaps.
-
3
Simulate the real exam
Run timed full-length simulations once you are consistently passing practice sets. The time pressure of the real exam is a skill of its own.
-
4
Target 95 %+ before booking
Candidates who consistently score 95 % or higher on practice tests have the best first-attempt pass rates. Book the exam when you are consistently above that threshold.
