Article 118.1 of the General Traffic Regulations requires motorcycle riders and passengers to wear a helmet approved under UNECE Regulation 22 and closed footwear covering the entire foot. Protective gloves are also required on interurban roads; until the ministerial order establishing their technical specifications enters into force, gloves of the same characteristics as those currently used may be worn. The article does not expressly require goggles, but suitable eye protection is advisable if the helmet has no visor or screen.
