Driving manual - theory
DGT theory syllabus, chapter by chapter
The complete DGT theory in plain English and Spanish. Read a chapter, then practice its exam questions to lock it in.
The DGT theory test (examen teórico) is 30 multiple-choice questions with a 30-minute limit, and you need at least 27 correct to pass. Every question is drawn from the official syllabus, so nothing on the exam falls outside the chapters below.
These chapters cover the same ground as an autoescuela textbook, rewritten in clear English alongside the Spanish, for residents and expats who want to sit the exam in either language. Read a chapter to understand the reason behind each rule, then practise its questions until the answers become automatic.
What the DGT theory syllabus covers
The DGT theory syllabus is split into 17 chapters. They run from traffic signs and right of way to vehicle mechanics and safe driving, and together they are the subjects the 30-question exam draws on. Each chapter below covers one theme, so you can read the rules and then drill the same subject.
How the chapters connect to practice
The topic hub groups the official question bank by subject, so you can see which themes you lose marks on. The Permiso B practice tests use the same 30-question format and 27-correct pass mark as the real exam. Browse questions by topic.
Reading is step one. Passing takes practice.
The theory is free to read. The official-format question bank, exam simulation and progress tracking are part of the full access plan.
